The Raf Simons Fall/Winter 2019 Campaign is Out Now

Raf Simons revealed its newest campaign for the Fall/Winter 2019 collection. Shot by long-time collaborator Willy Vanderperre and styled by Olivier Rizzo, the new image series maintains the brand’s signature stark minimalism with solid black and white photos positioned next to color shots. There are several references to David Lynch’s landmark 1986 film Blue Velvet in the collection including helmets and stills from the film used as graphic prints on some pieces, while a few of the other looks (namely the dramatically long robes) skew a little more Handmaid’s Tale.

Check Out Prada’s Dreamy S/S 19 Campaign

Prada released its Spring/Summe 2019 campaign, and it’s dreamy. Full of soft color hues and sensitive mood lighting that wouldn’t be out of place in a Sofia Coppola film, the Willy Vanderperre-shot image, and short video series invites the viewer to explore the in-between of reality and fantasy. Starring models Daan Duez, Jonas Glöer, and Tae Min Park, the atmospheric campaign presents the collection in a ~wavy~ new light. Check out some of the images below and watch the video online now.

Images: Willy Vanderperre.

Extending upon the captivating ‘Youth in Motion’ collection Raf Simons presented in February for Fall/Winter 18, today the designer released a brooding campaign shot by Willy Vanderperre. The image series, styled by Olivier Rizzo, features dark portraits highlighting pieces from the collection, with a model shot next to a vibrant still-life floral arrangement. The collection was inspired by youth and drug culture, adopting strong influences from ‘Drugs,‘ an 80s play that chronicled the rampant drug use of the time. Driving the theme home, part of the proceeds from the collection will be donated to recovery addiction programs.

Weekly Instagram Roundup: Tommy Hilfiger, Baja East, and More

This week’s complete social snapshot, distilled for your pleasure.

From the hottest celebrity parties to the regretful morning-after shots, ESSENTIAL HOMME‘s Weekly Instagram Roundup brings all of the hottest designer, model, and trendsetting pics from the week directly to you. After all, no one has time to scroll through anything but the best.

Tommy Hilfiger

Couldn’t make it to Tommy Hilfiger‘s all out Californian bash for the second Tommy x Gigi installment? The brand’s Instagram has you covered with a glossy highlight reel that shows every slow-motion celebrity (Lady Gaga on the sidelines, Fergie performing live), Coachella-esque drum circle, and, on-site screen-printed tee. The party to end all parties, it would most definitely seem.

John Targon

John Targon and Scott Studenberg put a major dent in the fashion world this NYFW with a rock-glam, off-the-cuff metallic line. The Baja East creative masterminds celebrated the occasion by partying hard at NYC’s Kola House, high-kicking alongside fellow club rats Maria Borges and Winnie Harlow for a night of memorable, if not slightly destructive, fun.

Versace

Bruce Weber stepped into the ring once again to shoot the latest rustic, wildlife-infused campaign for Italian fashion house Versace. After overtaking the Kentucky countryside for Spring/Summer 2017, the iconic photographer turned his lens to the brand’s masculine counterparts, branching off the previous campaign with this behind the scenes look at the upcoming men’s Spring/Summer 2017 visuals.

Diesel

Jump for joy with Diesel‘s new Spring/Summer 2017 campaign. Make Love Not Walls embraces Artistic Director Nicola Formichetti’s preferred explosion of energetic marketing, similar to his eponymous brand‘s more eccentric aesthetic. The images, a cut-and-paste collage of mood board, flower-power hope, profess an “all love, no hate” mantra, a youthful display that bites at the heels of the current political state and the brand’s own “louder and prouder than ever” proclamation.

Prada

Star of “The Young Pope,” Jude Law took some time away from the Vatican to pose for Prada Spring/Summer 2017. Photographed by Willy Vanderperre, the images are a byproduct of the brand and Law’s Prada 365 film, a re-imagining of the classic campaign through five different visual identities, including Pathways, Terrain, and Exits.

Weekly Instagram Roundup: Tom Ford, Kris Van Assche, and More

This week’s complete social snapshot, distilled for your pleasure.

From the hottest celebrity parties to the regretful morning-after shots, ESSENTIAL HOMME‘s Weekly Instagram Roundup brings all of the hottest designer, model, and trendsetting pics from the week directly to you. After all, no one has time to scroll through anything but the best.

Tom Ford

Though the designer/director missed out on gold, Tom Ford‘s supporting man, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, took home Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama for Nocturnal Animals at this year’s Golden Globe awards. Decked out in a look by the designer himself, the film marks the second project by Ford to hit the big screen and his first time being recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for his work.

Christian Williams

Model Christian Williams captured the riotous energy that Sibling London brought to the London Fashion Week Men’s runway, the brand debuting a knitwear (what else?) line of deep navy and burning maroon. The collection itself is a fervent attempt to reclaim the union jack and reinvent a coveted English punk vibe through loud and unexpected detailing.

Ed Skrein

Unconcerned with his film Deadpool’s Golden Globes engagement in America, actor Ed Skrein returned to his homeland for London Collections Men’s and Belstaff‘s impressive Autumn/Winter 2017 showing. The brand, inspired by the British Navy for a dual offering of both men’s and women’s lines, debuted a ’60s-inspired collection with minor embellishments for a classic feel in execution and scope.

Kris Van Assche

Dior Creative Director Kris Van Assche saturated his Instagram feed with the French brand’s high-brow Summer 2017 campaign prints. Starring the likes of Rami Malek, Boy George, and A$AP Rocky, a recent favorite of the designer, the images were shot by photographer Willy Vanderperre and usher in a darker, austere vibe for the fashion house.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast

Don’t miss the latest look at ESSENTIAL HOMME October/November 2016 cover star Luke Evans’s villainous turn in the upcoming “Beauty and the Beast” from Disney. The previous trailer shattering viewing records, this sneak peek, debuting during the 2017 Golden Globes Award telecast, features a first listen of the film’s lead, Emma Watson, singing and the pitchfork wielding villagers that Evans leads with his staple collected control.

Prada Resort 2017 Campaign

Themes at the heart of Prada – travel, art, identity – are explored again in the second installment of the brand’s 2017 Resort collection, featuring a photography and videography campaign shot by Willy Vanderperre and starring actor Dane DeHaan.

DeHaan, star of Luc Besson’s upcoming “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” and Prada ambassador since 2014, models the collection, which boasts darker tones that juxtapose tropical-colored, sports-style windbreakers with parkas also integrated within the Resort collection. DeHaan moves between spaces in Prada’s hometown of Milan wearing sleek black and navy coats over grainy turtlenecks. As he walks through the Fondazione Prada building – the site of the recent immersive dance showcase – he carries a glossy leather suitcase, baggage that’s efficient, elegant, and designed with the globetrotter in mind. He represents the ultimate Prada man: voyaging between cities and the self. The travel- and identity-centric collection reflects the origins of Prada, which originally began as a luxury purveyor of leather goods, principally suitcases and other travel items. Using its reputation in quality travel accessories, the brand thrusts itself to the forefront of high fashion.

Willy Vanderperre Goes Backstage Prada AW16 in ‘Dis Dressed Redux’

original-1Image: Willy Vanderperre, courtesy of Prada.

Following his “dis dressed” and “dis dressed epilogue” projects, Willy Vanderperre releases a new series of exclusive images photographed behind the scenes of Prada‘s Autumn/Winter 2016 runway show titled “Dis Dressed Redux.” Miuccia Prada’s individualistic approach is portrayed in the season’s narration of the then and now; an attempt to teach the fusion of fashion and culture through the layering of pieces in color collage and prints with bits of ’50s edge, nautical elements, and military detail. Focusing on the spirit of each look, overtop black and white backgrounds, Vanderperre adds to the intensity of Prada’s complex aesthetic universe in a style that follows his own preoccupation with youth—a motif that can also be seen through the photographer’s previous collaborations with Raf Simons, Dior Homme, and Jil Sander.
