Rockport Rocks the Boat Shoe
Rockport has always walked the fine line between “sensible” and “fashionable” when it comes to shoes. They’re the brand you go to when you need shoes for work, or shoes for a formal outing—they’re the shoes you can take home to mom; they’re not the first brand you think of when you want a pair of shoes you can totally show off to your friends. Well, think as such no longer. On March 1st, they will relaunch an updated, spruced up and modernized version of their popular 1994 Morgan Coast Boat Show in a limited 200 pair run. Originally worn as the official shoe of the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race (aka the Volvo Ocean Race), the new version is made in part of a colorful vintage sail (as in from an actual sail boat they found in Boston) and uses an eco-friendly tanner and other recycled materials for the mesh lining, tongue and sole. There’s also more boating references than you can wave a mast at like oversized grommets with reinforced rubber gaskets, zig-zag stitching that mimics the way sails are actually sewn together and shoe laces made to resemble nautical rope. The result, as you can see for yourself, is quite a handsome looking contemporary boat shoe that says anything but safe.
