Raf Simons x Fred Perry Spring/Summer 2016

Joining forces for both brand’s on-going, collaborative line, Raf Simons and Fred Perry present their Spring/Summer 2016 collection, with the Belgian designer taking a European Modernist approach to add his signature flair to a number of the athletic clothier’s staples. Inspired by the many subcultures that have incorporated the classic Fred Perry shirt into each’s wardrobe, Simons applied modern art influences and bold colors on to T-shirts, zip front pique shirts, sweatshirts, and a unique bomber jacket.

A departure from last season, which focused on darker hues accented with pastel trim and geometric motifs, the new pieces are lighter, with liberal use of white and sky blue. Utilizing a diagonal pattern with powdery secondary colors, the traditionally minimal pieces are given new life via loud colors and smart color-blocking. The mood feels more athletic, the knit sweaters and button ups of last season abandoned in favor of sweats and tees. For the first time in the now-13 collections, the collaboration explores playing with proportions via a dropped neck t-shirt. Moving from a tailored to a more boxy fit the Chevron Insert T-Shirt—available in both black and white—sits wider on the body, creating an entirely new silhouette.
