Like most humans, we naturally crave the complete opposite of what is going on around us. And so today, as Summer Fridays and weekends-away slowly fade from concept into reality, we find ourselves (maybe not so surprisingly) glossy-eyed and nostalgic for the backpack-covered, school-going days of adolescence. It’s a warm, bubbly feeling that is felt especially strong on the 8:45 AM L train from Williamsburg, with our briefcases tightly clenched between skinny jeans—our own, or the football team of 20-somethings around us, we’re not sure—and hands above juggling phones and books and coffee mugs. While we’re very well past the look of JanSport, our backpack thirst, though enormous, is fortunately quenched by French bag makers Côte et Ciel, a Paris based creative team that develops pieces inspired by the natural world and France’s heritage. Of the brand’s most sophisticated releases, the Nile Rucksack is a contemporary approach to the traditional backpack and features a structured, contemporary base with an amorphous backing. Available in three other colors, the bag can fit either 13″ or 15″ laptops and all the phones, books, and mugs that you could need.

The Nile Rucksack retails between  $315-$425 and is available for purchase now online.
