Burberry Prorsum F/W 2012 Collection

Whoever thought clothing might make us want to go out into the rain? From the first digital raindrop clear to the last, Burberry’s Winter 2012 show stuck the perfect tone of today’s melancholia. Infrangible outerwear composed of quilted and cropped riding and bomber jackets, oversized caban coats and trenches are matched in vigor by beautifully studded gloves and document cases. What at first appears to be a collection of solely of emboldened structuralism quickly eases. Beneath the staunch exterior sweaters adorned with a beaded owl intarsia, beaded appliqué fox heads and shirts made of animal print peak through revealing a nostalgic and youthful vulnerability. Before the show is over, you realize that Creative Director Christopher Bailey hasn’t just created a collection that speaks to dark and uncertain times, but he’s given the dark clouds a silver lining by beckoning to keep happier days of yore close at heart.
