Hublot Partners with ‘Pelé’ – The Collection for Auction and Exhibition

The worlds of fashion and sports usually intersect in the forms of sponsorships or athletic launches; however, luxury watch label Hublot takes this relationship a couple steps further, widening to include European football as an integral part of its DNA. Since its entry into the game in 2008 as the “Official Timekeeper’ for UEFA EURO, the watch brand has shown an intense commitment to soccer, frequently bringing on players as ambassadors, specifically Brazilian all-star Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known famously as Pelé. Emblematic of Hublot’s hands-on interaction with the athletic world, the brand is partnering now with Julien’s Auctions—a Los Angeles-based auction house that specializes in celebrity memorabilia—to present Pelé – The Collection. The release includes an exhibition and auction of nearly 2,000 items from the famed player’s personal collection, including his Jules Rimet Trophy and NY Cosmos NASL Championship ring.

WHAT

The Waldorf Astoria New York’s Presidente
An iconic order from the uptown haven The Waldorf Astoria New York, this hot-blooded cocktail is lionized even further in the hotel’s brand-new bar book, penned by Peacock Alley’s own Frank Caiafa.

HOW

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz. Caña Brava Rum
  • 0.75 oz. Dolin de Chambery Blanc Vermouth
  • 0.75 oz. Noilly Prat Extra Dry Vermouth
  • 0.25 oz. Grenadine
  • 0.25 oz. Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao
  • 1 dash Regans’ Orange Bitters No. 6

THEN

Add all ingredients to mixing glass. Add ice and stir for 30 seconds. Strain into chilled cocktail glass, and garnish with orange peel and brandied cherry.

WHAT

La Piscine’s Sunsetchill
Record highs call for record-making beverages, and La Piscine‘s new summer drink menu includes a round of heavy-hitters sure to cool down any fiery day. Don’t be discouraged by its name though, the NYC rooftop spot’s Sunsetchill delivers its relaxing promise—with sweet fruit and warm whisky—no matter the hour.

HOW

Ingredients:

  • 1.75 oz. George Dickle Rye
  • 4.5 cups Passion fruit puree
  • 2.25 cups Sugar
  • 1.25 cups Fresh lime juice
  • 1 Red Thai chili
  • Splash of Ginger ale

THEN

In a blender, puree lime juice, chili, sugar, and frozen passion fruit. Strain through a chinois. Combine rye and 2 oz. of passion chili puree into a shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into glass with a splash of ginger ale and serve with lime garnish.

H&M Announces KENZO as Next Designer Partnership

KENZO‘s cool clothiers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon add to a long list of names—from Alber Elbaz to most recently Olivier Rousteing—in a forthcoming capsule collection with H&M. Part of the annual designer collaboration, the creative directors look to translate their house’s (at times) animalistic style—known for energetic prints and colorful allure—into the retailer’s global scale. “We wanted to really tell the story of the brand and of us,” Leon said in a statement. “Together with H&M, we will invite all the costumers and fans to the real KENZO world.” Including men’s, women’s and accessories, KENZO x H&M will be available starting November 3, 2016.

Alessandro Michele Subverts Cruise Season With Extensive Gucci 2017 Collection

Nearly a year and a half since his creative director induction, Gucci‘s fan-favorite Alessandro Michele is still still making ripples across the fashion landscape. Credited as reviving a—for lack of a better word—”coolness” back to the storied Italian house through a stylized focus that grasps both retro chic and of-the-moment ardor, the designer infuses a ceremonial effortlessness into his work. In his just-released Gucci Cruise 2017 lookbook (a sample of which can be seen above), Michele concentrates this delicate balance of eccentricity and ornate details in an extensive 87-look collection, riffing off classic British tailoring with touches of bohemian discovery in rich chintzes, warm tweeds, bleached denims, and, of course, his signature animalistic embroideries. Seen by British photographer Nick Waplington at the Hilles House—Isabella Blow’s famous estate in the Gloucestershire countryside—the Cruise line is a loud awakening for the typically muted season for men.

NikeLab Recruits Olivier Rousteing for Designer Football Capsule

Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing adds to NikeLab‘s ever-growing list of fashion alliances with a new capsule collection, Football Nouveau, that modernizes the sports brand’s long-living football silhouettes.

Including a new take on Nike’s N98 jackets and four silos of footwear—the Mercurial, Magista, Hypervenom, and Tiempo—the release renders the familiar pieces in Rousteing’s own styles using riri zippers, aglets, and eyelet in an all-black and gold palette. “It was really important for me to bring my aesthetic to the collaboration,” the designer said in a statement. “Black is sleek and timeless and the gold is about victory and winning. I really wanted to make the athletes feel like the new kings of the world.”
