Over 60 modern and vintage timepieces—from Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Cartier—line Christie’s Time for Spring auction, offering a rare opportunity for collectors all over the world to get their hands on one-of-a-kind watches. Running through April 5, 2016, the event is led by the Patek Philippe reference 2503, a piece previously owned by Andy Warhol that shows off the artist’s intrigue for horology with its noticeable ‘bunny ear lugs,’ 18K yellow gold Markowsky case, black lizard strap, and manually wound Cal. 9-90. Beating at 19,800 vibrations per hour, the watch is finished with Côtes de Genève adorning the bridges and perlage covering some of the movement’s internal plates. In his time, Warhol’s appreciation for art translated into his enviable collection of over 300 watches, with favorites centered in the canopy that once hung over his bed. Commemorating the artist’s ardor, this circa 1952 Patek Philippe is expected today to reach 100K at the auction’s close.
