The Ferragamo Comic Book

The Ferragamo Comic Book

Salvatore Ferragamo Frank Espinosa Comic Book Flagship Store Launch Release Images Paintings NYC New York City Milan Museo Making of a Dream Comic Book Graphic Novel Buy Purchase Launch designer best“This company understands art,” famed illustrator Frank Espinosa said in no uncertain terms yesterday morning inside the Ferragamo 5th Avenue Flagship store. He was presenting his latest work, “Salvatore Ferragamo: Making of a Dream,” a beautifully illustrated story of how Salvatore Ferragamo came to be, which can also be read in long form in Shoemaker of Dreams: the Autobiography of Salvatore Ferragamo). They’re calling the glossy book a comic, which it kind of is, but the images translate as fine art. Espinosa, whose own father was a cobbler, favored a collage technique in acrylic, gouache on pencil and india ink to capture, quite literally, the spirit of a shoemaker sewing together his masterpiece. There’s a noticeable lack of “neatness,” an attribute Espinosa says mirrors the messiness of an actual shoe factory. You can pick up a copy, sure to be a collector’s item, for just $9 now only at the 5th Avenue Ferragamo store in NYC. While there, also admire the stunning comic book window displays and Esponisa artwork throughout the store.

Topman Festival Fashion Store Lalapalooza Made in America Governor's Ball Summer

Dressing for a hot, sweaty and most likely mud and rain filled outdoor summer concert can be a daunting task. You’re on display as much as the bands playing but…wear your designer duds at your own risk. Our friends at Topman have made a tongue-in-cheek video relating and with that, have  launched today an online store stocked with just about anything a guy could want to weather the jumping, shouting, spilling and other normally unsavory activities taking place at places like Lalapalooza,  Governor’s Ball and Made in America. Also interview with bands like Two Door Cinema Club about their take on festival fashion. Check the store here!

Before any awards are handed out at the CFDA awards on June 3rd, those nominated for the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent got to have a little fun. Namely, by creating “objets d’art” out of nothing less than a mountain of Swarovski crystals. The pieces were revealed today and go on sale at New York City Boutique Fivestory. The collection is almost more exciting than, well, the awards, if that’s at all possible and in effect, makes each of the designers a winner in our book. Among our favorites? Suno’s crystalized cactus, Tod Snyder’s bejeweled New Balance Sneakers, Tim Coppens crown-like helmut and Public School’s BMX creation. Check out the entirety of the collection below.

Proceeds will benefit Free Arts NYC, a non-profit organization that provides under-served children and families with a combination of arts and mentoring programs geared towards boosting self-confidence and resilience.

The Anti-Aging Moisturizer for Summer

MD Solar Sciences Daily Anti Aging Moisturizer Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 UVA UVB Protection avobenzone

MD Solar Sciences Daily Anti Aging Moisturizer Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 UVA UVB Protection avobenzone If there’s one thing you should be doing this summer, other than, say wearing the best of Spring 2013 style and sipping rum-like concoctions near a pool or beach, it would be to regularly use a face moisturizer that includes a broad-spectrum SPF. Moisturizing is the anchor to any healthy skincare regimen and is something you should be doing daily anyway but come summer, the sun’s intensity and your penchant for being out in it, increases the need for some UV protection. Even if you’re just commuting in your car or out shopping, it’s best to go for a product with a broad-spectrum SPF of 30. Yes, 30, which may seem like a lot, but given that you’re only applying a moisturizer once a day, it needs to be powerful enough to last all day. SPF 15 is the lowest you should consider going.

We’ve been steadfast in testing the latest and most luxurious blends (specifically on recent winter and spring jaunts to the Caribbean) and have found MD Solar Sciences Daily Anti-Aging Moisturizer to be the very best at both improving skin complexion and protecting against UV rays. Not a surprise given that it was formulated by Clinical Professor at NYU School of Medicine and dermatologic oncologist, Dr. Robert J Friedman.  The first thing to know is that the white cream blends in seamlessly and instantaneously with no milky SPF-like residues and comes with an ever so light peppery scent. No coconut here. The blend favors the chemical blocker avobenzone over the controversial oxybenzone (which has been linked to cancer and the death of coral reefs) and comes with a top grade mix of 9 powerful wrinkle fighting anti-oxidants like the extracts of green tea, mushrooms, rosemary, sunflowers and grapes. There’s also a slew of anti-inflammatory and skin soothing agents, including something called Niacinamide that’s one of the best blemish/redness fighters out there, making this also a perfect stand in for your summer aftershave. And beyond winning our hearts with it’s performance, we have to admit that the slick twist top bottle also made us fall in love with how it looks in our bathroom…and in the clear pastic bag we’re so fond of traveling with. At 1.7 oz, the bottle is very TSA friendly.

MD Solar Sciences Daily Anti-Aging Moisturizer Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 is $68/1.7 oz at mdsolarsciences.com

The 1000-Year-Old Sunglasses

1k-limited-45 150

Vintage? Nope. Just a little, you know, reclaimed.

So here’s the deal. Capital Eyewear’s crafted a limited run of 25 sunglasses using actual old growth Redwood trees. That’s um, right. If your heart just skipped a beat at the though of cavalierly using some of  the world’s most endangered, natural resources to make some fancy shades, that’s ok. Ours did too. But we can all calm down. The 1000 year old trees used in the sunglasses were originally laid out as train tracks aback in the 1800s. The tracks were replaced back in the ’50s and, as strange as it may sound, were put into storage. In this century, the wood was reclaimed to build a house, which is where these sunnies come in. Rather than toss the scraps, Capital bought them and gifted the world these gorgeous shades. Each come with 100% UV protective Carl Zeiss lenses, stretch-to-fit lenses and are waterproof. Just $350 bucks please. Check them out here.
